Water Leak Detection

Occasionally a water leak is obvious and, therefore, easily isolated and repaired. Unfortunately, the source of a water leak is usually much harder to trace, requiring the help of a leak detection specialist to track down and solve the issue. If a water leak is not identified quickly and repaired promptly then it can cause irreparable destruction and damage to a property, but often the traditional methods of quickly finding a leak’s source can be just as destructive as the leak itself! Our specialists use their expertise, combined with state-of-the-art leak detection equipment to find your leaks without unnecessary excavations and upheaval. These invasive methods often do not guarantee that a leak will be found, so they are not part of the Rainbow Restoration method.

Our Water Leak Detection Process

The team at Rainbow Restoration in Edinburgh are specialists in leak detection, helping to identify the source of the leak and fix it. For buried pipes we can use tools including thermal imaging cameras to identify the leaks without having to excavate the pipes, then only dig where the leak is, and repair the pipe quickly.

If the pipes are too deep in concrete or other structural materials, or very well insulated, thermal imaging may not work. The heat detection cameras will be unable to identify a change in temperature at the surface level. In this case, if it is a pressurised water pipe that is damaged, acoustic leak detection may be suitable. When the high pressure water leaks out into the surrounding ground, and our specialist acoustic listening devices can detect the vibrations and pinpoint the location of the leak. If acoustic detection fails, then tracer gas can be used.
